Raymond, Casco and the Boston Post Cane |
||
| The Boston Post Cane is a New England tradition that dates back to 1909. This was the year that the Boston Post newspaper gave gold-headed and ebony canes to approximately 431* towns as part of a publicity stunt. The canes were to be given to the town’s oldest resident. | ||
| The towns of Raymond and Casco both accepted the canes. Raymond’s cane is on display at the Raymond Town Hall and is the original. Casco’s cane disappeared in about the 1930s and has since been replaced by a replica—the Casco cane is currently at the Casco Town Hall. | ||
